Unfortunately, severity of our region does not only bring pleasure to people but also has inflicted suffering on political prisoners of 1930's in the former Soviet Union. Northern Urals is also well-known as a place of GULAG.
 

Tour to GULAG places and ridge Tchuval schedule:

  

Day 1

  • Transfer from Solikamsk (280 km / 168 miles).

  • River Vishera ferry by boat

  • Setting up a camp. Free time.

Day 2

  • 8 km / 4.8 miles taiga hike to GULAG places

  • GULAG barracks.

  • Setting up a camp. Free time.

Day 3

  • 3 km / 1.8 miles hike to abandoned iron ore mines.

  • Halt.

  • 2 km / 1.2 miles hike to river Tchuvalka. Setting up a camp. Free time.

Day 4

  • Short hike to GULAG barracks. First very picturesque view to the Ural Mountains around.

  • Climb Tchuval Mountain peak (920 m / 3.018 ft).

  • Ural Mountains sightseeing.

  • Tchuval ridge sightseeing: its rocks and "stone river"

  • Return to camp.

Day 5

  • Return to river Vishera by French pass through Siberian taiga (11 km / 6.6 miles)

  • River Vishera ferry.

  • Transfer to Solikamsk.
